Welcome to Fiction Portal, a brand new start-up project whose mission is to bring fiction back to the lives of the college students who just “don’t have time to read”. It will be run through user submitted stories, and said stories sorted through a tagging system by genre, content, and user ratings.
We here at Fiction portal have standards, and hope to invite pre-readers to volunteer their time to read the influx of stories and pass on stories that meet or exceed those standards to our editor(s). Stories that are rejected by the initial pre-readers should be returned with some constructive criticism, but keep in mind, they are not editors, and should not be expected do perform as such. Our editing staff will do their job if necessary, and return it for final revisions, and if the author is satisfied with the revisions made, the story will be posted, and tagged with the author’s name or handle.
We encourage all genres, from Fantasy, to Sci-fi, to Horror, even Western! But don’t feel constrained by a genre and certainly feel free to break the mould. Make sure to read the submission requirements such as length and content. We encourage both one-shot short stories, and longer serialized chapter-by-chapter fiction. Multi-part stories should be submitted with an indication that they are such, and will be compiled into a single post that bumps each time it receives more chapters. Please take advantage of the option to send a title image/illustration for your story, as it will be posted at the top of the story post and is likely to draw in readers: Do not just Google Image for something fitting, as it is likely copyrighted. Make sure you have permission for the images you use.
Feel free to submit stories in various formats, Word Docs, Google Docs, .rtf, whatever. If there is somehow difficulty opening it, you will be informed and given the opportunity to resubmit it. Google Docs are a preferred format, as that is what they will be uploaded to the site as. Our staff have full control over the submissions once they are posted, but you may at any time request that your story be taken down or submit corrections or rewrites.
The finer details of submission and rules of the site will update as time goes on and we gain experience running the site. Right now we are looking for volunteer pre-readers, authors to submit, and Editors looking to get something they can put on their résumés. So please fire off an email to us at FictionPortal@gmail.com
